FOR THE LOVE OF COMPOUNDING!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm leaving my work place soon, and who would have guessed that I would have to explain the theory of compounding ONE MORE TIME to the same fucking manager.

This time I was calculating the rate of returns over 3 years for our funds. For those of you who arne't familiar I'll get a little technical just to prove my point

Let's assume the rate of returns in each year are represented by

year 1: X%
year 2: Y%
year 3: Z%

To figure out the annual rate of return over those 3 years you tax X*Y*Z to the power of 1/3.

Same manager as in prior posts (the one with a CA) asks, so what does this 3 year rate of return equate to?

for shits and giggles I ask him "what do you think it makes up this number"?

his response....and I kid you not, "the sum of the rate of returns from year 1, 2 and 3"?

"NO, because that wouldn't be compounding, you have to multiply them"

I then go on to prove it to him by multiplying them out. At the end of the conversation, what is his question? I love this

"so I don't get why you multiply them"??????????????????

this is why I'm leaving, I can't take much more of this

Christmas/New Years - relaxing vacation, nothing fancy, other than 2 turkey dinners and 2 prime rib dinners in 5 nights. The gluttony is kicking in. This year's resolution, to touch the basketball rim (as sad as that is), after a 5 week hiatus due to illness, vegas and the holiday season, we're back into full swing, and nothing is going to stop me now.

Scared for my life....in the office kitchen!

I was heating up my lunch today when someone came in to heat up their food. It was leftover chicken in a takeout bag. He put it in the microwave and instant sparks. He stopped it and said "did you see those sparks?". I said "yes, it must have aluminum foil on the inside". I thought the smart thing would be to take it out and put it on a plate, or a napkin or anything not metalic.

instead he walks over to the paper towels....and.....wraps the bag in the paper towel and said "I'm going to try and hide it"?????

I quickly take my lunch out of the microwave and walk out of the kitchen. As I walk out I see him restarting the microwave and sparks flying everywhere, with a definite smell of burning. sigh.....

< 2 inches to go!

My goal of reaching a basketball rim with my short arms by christmas continues. I was hurt for 2 weeks with ankle and back problems, so realistically my goal should be pushed back to January 14. But I am still confident that I can get my vertical up to 31 inches in the next 5 weeks. I started about 3 months ago at 27 inches, but didn't really start to see gains in my vert until I started my box jumping (I spent a good 6 weeks on conditioning my legs for the abuse they are going to take).

I created my program based off of Air Alert III and several other vertical jumping resources on the net. My program saw an increase in reps just about every week. I had read in several places that you should be limiting your "foot touches" when doing plyometrics so you don't hurt yourself. Air Alert III doesn't take that into account and pushes up to 500 foot touches per session vs the recommended 70-90. During my program I realized that jumping is not about quantity, it's about quality. When will you be jumping 15 times in a row? almost never. But you do need that 1 explosive jump in just about any sport. The result? I've decreased my reps in each set and increased the intensity. I think I'll see better gains this way.

I have a 2 foot box created by my dad (thanks dad!). 24 inches is pretty high to be doing box jumping (for me anyways). I get scared everytime I jump off it and realize that I'm probably close to 4 feet above the ground. I don't know how basketball players do that regularly. I'm so worried about landing wrong and busting my bummed ankle. It also started snowing yesterday....nothing like box jumping in the middle of the night outside while it snows.

This week I start to add cardio to my workout as I will attempt to cut down 5-10% of my weight which should propel me to reach my goal by christmas! only 2 more inches.

Another week passes in dodgeball, and we are still undefeated (not just this year, but lifetime!). Surprisingly we've gotten 10 out of 10 spirit points in the last 2 weeks. who would have guessed. Yesterday was another exciting match up with 7-up yours taking down the victory 10-2 vs Artful Dodgers. They weren't a very good team, but there were definitely some highlights.

Jerome (AWP) had another excellent game, taking down their entire team in 1 game with the assistance of Donna. Calm, cool and collected, he picked them off one by one.

We were discussing this past week about the idea of having a suicider run up to the center line, jump over and throw the ball. You are guaranteed to be out when you land on the other side (unless you have the ability to fly or levitate back to your side). Harry did it twice yesterday. First time was against a girl, they complained saying he was out, we didn't feel like arguing, but it did look great when you see a guy launch himself over the line just for a better throw. He tried again later against their best player, but missed the throw, thus eliminating himself.

We also had a fantastic showing by our girls. Donna had several catches and saves, one of which was a game winning catch against their hardest thrower. Mary also had a good night with a few caught balls including a deflection off of donna and a diving finger tip grab. Their guys must have felt like idiots when our girls were catching their balls.

We were working on our shielding technique (a catcher stands infront of a thrower). It worked for the most part. Only 2 times were our throwers hit from behind the shield. We will get better at sheilding and then be even more unstoppable in playoffs.

With 3 games to go, we sit in 2nd place (with 2 games in hand). We have a little work to do to reach a triple digit plus minus, we'll definitely have to run up the score if we want to hit  +100 this year.
